Daybook

A private, self-hosted calendar, journal, and habit tracker — day pages, routine checklists, mood tracking, and habit-streak analytics, kept off third-party servers, with a native Android companion app.

Overview

Daybook is a self-improvement agenda I needed for myself, not a project built to learn something new — so like LocalFitness, it's vibe coded end to end. It replaces a stack of separate journaling, habit-tracking, and calendar apps with one self-hosted tool, with data encrypted at rest instead of sitting on someone else's server.

Features

  • Day pages: a free-form journal entry per day
  • Routine checklists: recurring daily/weekly checklists with completion tracking
  • Mood tracking: log mood alongside journal entries to spot patterns over time
  • Habit-streak analytics: visualize consistency and streaks for tracked habits
  • Native Android app: companion app for day-to-day logging, synced with the same self-hosted backend

Implementation

Frontend and backend in SvelteKit, with a native Android companion app in Kotlin. Data is stored with SQLCipher, so the database itself is encrypted at rest — not just protected behind a login screen.
